SUMMARY:2024 Tie A Yellow Ribbon for Veterans
DESCRIPTION:The Geneseo Chamber is teaming with the Geneseo VFW Post 5083 again this year to honor veterans in Geneseo this November.\nTie a Yellow Ribbon is an easy concept – volunteers tie yellow ribbons around every tree at the City Park and boulevard on State Street. Businesses\, organizations\, churches and schools are also encouraged to participate by tying yellow ribbons around the trees on their property.\nThe ribbons go up on the afternoon of Saturday November 2. Volunteers will be at the City Park on North St. in the Rotary Pavilion shelter to distribute yellow ribbons to those looking to tie a yellow ribbon. The ribbons stay up through Veteran’s Day and come down on Saturday November 12.\nWe will need volunteers to help tie ribbons. The effort should only last 1-2 hours with enough volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering\, donating\, or with any questions are asked to contact the Geneseo Chamber of Commerce at 309-944-2686.

SUMMARY:Cruise the Canal: Fall Foliage Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Geneseo Chamber of Commerce announces its popular Cruise the Canal golf cart tours of the Hennepin Canal for 2024. The Cruise the Canal tours allow tourists in our area to enjoy one of Illinois’ State Parks and a second chance to experience the tours surrounded by fall foliage. Registration information TBA.\n\nThe popular golf cart tours are led by Zack Sullivan of the Geneseo Chamber of Commerce. Sullivan delights guests on the tours by telling the story of canal – including the construction\, history\, and ecosystem of the canal. Tours are offered three times per day\, with tour times at 9:00 am\, 11:00 am\, and 1:00 pm. All tours begin at Lock #24 and travels west to Lock #26 before turning back towards the starting point. The cost per person to participate is $25/person. The Geneseo Chamber also works with assisted living facilities to provide rides for seniors with no cost for the caregiver to drive.\n\nA portion of the proceeds from the Geneseo Cruise the Canal tours goes to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for preservation\, upkeep\, and maintenance of the Hennepin Canal State Parkway. Information on how to get involved with canal preservation efforts is available at the Geneseo Chamber of Commerce and the Friends of the Hennepin Canal.\n\nCART SPONSORSHIPS AVAILABLE\nCart Sponsorships are available for the tours. These sponsorships are a great way to get your message and brand in front of visitors of Geneseo\, as well as residents looking for something to do in their own backyard. A cart sponsorship also helps the Chamber continue to provide high quality event programming like the Cruise the Canal events at an affordable cost going in our community. Sponsorships are available according to the following sponsorship schedule:\n• 1 tour date: $75/cart\n• 2 tour dates: $125/cart\nThe 2024 Geneseo Cruise the Canal schedule is Friday September 6 and Friday October 18 (fall foliage tour).\nFor more information and to reserve a spot on one of the tours\, call the Geneseo Chamber of Commerce at 309-944-2686 or email geneseo@geneseo.org.

SUMMARY:The Richmond Hill Players present: Of Mice and Men
DESCRIPTION:Two drifters\, George and his friend Lennie\, with dreams of living off the “fat of the land\,” arrive at a ranch\, hoping to work for enough money to buy their own place. Lennie is a man-child\, a little boy in the body of a dangerously powerful man. His obsessions with things soft and cuddly have made George cautious about who the gentle giant\, with his brute strength\, associates with. George’s promise to let Lennie “tend to the rabbits” on their future homestead helps to keep Lennie calm\, as the overgrown child needs constant reassurance. But the ranch owner’s son is a brutal bully with a promiscuous wife\, and Lennie’s encounters with them lead to tragic results. Realizing they can’t run away anymore\, George is faced with a moral question: how should he deal with Lennie before the ranchers find him and take matters into their own hands?
